PKI Features and Benefits

Public-key cryptography has fastly became the most widely accepted technology for security and authentication in eCommerce and Internet applications, requiring strong developments in public-key infrastructure (PKI) able to publish and manage public-key informations.

PKI is essential to support large scale deployment of different security services like:

  • Origin authentication:Verifing that messages have been originated from the expected sender. This is often referred to be as "digital signature", although digital signatures can be used to authenticate entities other than origin.
  • Content integrity: Verifing that messages have not been tampered with in transit.
  • Content confidentiality (encryption): Protecting the contents of a document or message so that it can be read only by specifically identified users.
  • Non-repudiation:A security service that ensures that a party in a dispute cannot repudiate, or refuse in future the content or the validity of a a document.

In the physical world, you protect your written correspondence with the envelope. In the online world, sending an e-mail message is like sending a postcard: it is easy to intercept and read as it travels across the Internet. As an example it is very easy to forge email: forging the sender identification means to send email as if it came from someone else.

Email is one of the oldest Internet technologies, designed and implemented when the Internet was still a safe and friendly place. Now this technology has to face the multiple security problems that the World Wide Web users are facing. Your email can be read while in transit and more over its content can be altered: this requires more technical skills than forging of a return address, but there is no protection against it offered by standard internet email protocols.

Avoid the risk to disclose your private e-mails subcribing to receive a ParsSign certificate.

The digital certificate will enable you to:

  • Encrypt emails to ensure that messages and attachments will be read only by you
  • Digitally Sign emails to ensure that messages and attachments really are originating from you
